The Kingsway Urban Park, Swansea
Project Information
A £13m transformation of a formerly vehicle dominated road into a new green street.
The Challenge
The combination of a decline in retail and entertainment offer, and an over-engineered highway meant that The Kingsway had evolved into an unpleasent city centre environment, despite its strategic importance within central Swansea.

Our Role
As landscape architects and urban designers we worked closely with a range of Council Officers and Members as well as external stakeholders to devise a concept for the regeneration of The Kingsway. We worked as an integrated part of the project team, while also being the lead Quality Auditor for the scheme. We refined the scheme with the design team at the Council with the overall vision to creat an Urban Park with a focus on creating a quality public realm for pedestrians and cyclists.
The Outcome
The Kingsway has now been completed as a city park incorporating new public realm areas, landscaped parkland, cycle routes and two-way single lane vehicle route along with the creation of wider pedestrian walkways.
