The Challenge

The advances in solar technology and the demand for EV charging facilities have created the opportunity to use existing surface car parks and the top floors of multi storey car parks for the installation of solar canopies.  Until recently ground level car park canopies required planning permissions, but now in England they will usually require prior approvals with regard to siting, design, and external appearance.

Our Role

The Urbanists manage the planning process to secure the necessary consents, advising on potential issues to help ensure that applications for prior approval and planning permission are secured. 
The Eastbourne and Southampton hospital sites contribute to the provision of power to the associated hospitals, and the Crewe work involved securing approvals for roof top solar over 10 separate industrial and commercial buildings at the Bentley Motor Works, Crewe.

The Outcome

This reduces risk for the client, and ensure clarity on planning requirements and programme.  Programme is usually critical for these projects both for client and for associated infrastructure delivery.
