The Challenge

To deliver a new replacement high school within an existing school site, whilst addressing existing site issues and constraints.

Our Role

We acted as Planning Consultants from the initial site feasibility and options stage, through public engagement, and the pre-application process with the Vale of Glamorgan Council.  
We scoped and managed the preparation of the comprehensive planning application which required works to address existing flood risk, highway works, and improvements and changes to the formal recreation space provision.  The planning process involved the coordination of multiple and complicated issues affecting the scheme design and requiring working amendments during the determination process (such as trees, drainage, ecology) 
Full planning permission was secured in April 2024 and we are working to deliver the scheme through the post-planning construction stage through the discharge of planning conditions and minor scheme variations. 

The Outcome

The planning process raised a broad range of issues which were addressed by close and consistent working approach with consultees, and detailed scheme amendments. 
We agreed that a number of requirements could be covered by pre-commencement conditions, thereby allowing the permission to be granted sooner, and the project issued for tender at the earliest opportunity.
