Project Information
A landscape-led residential development in Rhoose, Vale of Glamorgan, delivering housing alongside multifunctional open space for recreation and sustainable drainage.
The Challenge
The key challenge for the site was working within a historic outline permission that predated and, in many respects, superseded current planning policy and contemporary design principles. This created complexities in aligning the approved parameters with modern placemaking, landscape, and sustainability expectations.
Our Role
We provided urban design and landscape services, initially in an advisory capacity and subsequently leading on the preparation of detailed layouts and supporting planning documentation. This included the Design and Access Statement and outline landscape specifications.
Our approach focused on reconciling the legacy consent with current best practice, ensuring the development responded positively to its context while meeting present-day policy aspirations.
The Outcome
We successfully balanced housing delivery with high-quality landscape and recreational provision. This resulted in the creation of a multifunctional open space that serves as a valuable new recreational destination within the scheme, while also contributing to the site’s sustainable drainage strategy and wider environmental performance.
