Barratt & David Wilson Homes required our expertise to prepare a Full Planning Application for 166 homes on a greenfield site in Swansea.
We overcame challenges of balancing viability and integrating SuDS by working very closely with client and their engineers to develop a green infrastructure and placemaking led masterplan that was rooted in making highly efficient use of the site. As a team, we overcame the complexities of integrating the requirements of the local SAB (rain gardens and bioswales without trees) whilst simultaneously achieving adequate and consistent street tree planting through features that doubled up as greening and traffic calming.
In order to deal with the need for defined character areas, we worked with the client to sensitively amended many of Barratt Homes standard house types and established a simple contemporary palette with key parts of the site demonstrating an ‘uplift’ in quality and design relative to their proposed setting.
The development is SAB compliant and has been refined in line with the complex requirements of achieving attractive and practical sustainable drainage features in a residential setting.
The proposed development sees as many properties as possible getting the benefit of views and interaction with existing and proposed landscaped spaces incorporating retained mature trees and utilising ‘play on the way’ along the site periphery. This doubled up with the creation of a fantastic space acting as the gateway and focal point of the scheme.
