Delivering education services for the town of Pembroke.

The Challenge

In recent years the education provision for Pembroke town has been significantly enhanced by the Council and The Urbanists have worked with design and construction partners to help deliver the investment. Ysgol Harri Tudur is a major comprehensive school that required extensive assessment to ensure supporting infrastructure was in place locally to support the delivery of the school. Ysgol Bro Penfro is a Welsh medium primary school with a very sensitive site and the design required a careful design that fully respected the site’s natural and heritage setting.

Our Role

The Urbanists acted as planning consultant to secure outline planning permission for the Ysgol Harri Tudur secondary school, a major education facility that has nine forms and capacity for 1,250 pupils. More recently The Urbanists acted for Morgan Sindall in securing planning permission for Ysgol Bro Penfro on land adjacent to Ysgol Hari Tudur. The site was very sensitive on ecological grounds and in the setting of Pembroke Castle, a scheduled monument. Extensive assessments were therefore needed to be coordinated by our team and close engagement undertaken with the Planning Authority and ecological and heritage stakeholders.

The Outcome

Ysgol Harri Tudur was built by Bouygues and opened its doors to local pupils in 2018; it is now a thriving education assets for the town. Ysgol Bro Penfro is due to open by the autumn of 2024. Combined the two facilities represent a comprehensive education destination that shall serve current and future generations of Pembroke town.
