A £150m landscape masterplan to develop a strong strategic case for landscape enhancement

The Challenge

Rio Architects had already been appointed to develop a detailed occupier-led masterplan, and we were commissioned to integrate into this a clear rationale for the treatment of the spaces between buildings as well as develop a clear strategy for all future Green Infrastructure on the site.

Our Role

Our role was to ensure that there masterplan was underpinned by a strategy for green infrastructure and public spaces that would support the wider ambitions and corporate policies of Cardiff City Council while dovetailing with the Full Planning Application for the proposed Arena.

The Outcome

Outline planning for the wider mixed-use masterplan was granted in March 2022 which will see up to 1,150 new homes, as well as office spaces, and leisure facilities built over seven years.
